One of this summer's most intriguing new theater premieres arrives at Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC)with Giulia: The Poison Queen of Palermo, running June 28 through July 26. Inspired by the true story of the infamous 17th-century Sicilian woman Giulia Tofana, the new musical asks a provocative question: what happens when an act of self-defense sparks an underground sisterhood?

Written by and starring Grammy Award winner Jennifer Nettles, with direction by Tony Award winner Mary Zimmermanand choreography by Austin McCormick, Giulia blends a soulful contemporary score with sweeping theatrical storytelling. Early reactions suggest PAC NYC may have another breakout hit on its hands, with audiences praising its emotional scope, ambitious score, and timely themes of resilience, justice, and female agency.

For members who enjoy discovering major productions before they become impossible to ticket, this is exactly the kind of world premiere worth seeing first. Pair it with dinner in Tribeca and experience one of New York's most exciting new works while the rest of the city is still catching on.
