Together, Brasserie Angelica and Gambit Bar form the social heart of The Newman, an 81-room hotel where Bloomsbury’s literary spirit meets Soho’s modern energy. Founded in 2023 by Paul Brackley, Kinsfolk & Co brings together leading talent from across hospitality with a long-term commitment to thoughtful, ethical excellence—ensuring The Newman becomes a lasting part of Fitzrovia’s story.
Opening this winter on Newman Street, Brasserie Angelica and Gambit Bar are the latest ventures from London hospitality group Kinsfolk & Co. Set within The Newman Hotel in the heart of Fitzrovia, the two venues are poised to become fixtures of this lively W1 neighbourhood.
Designed by LIND + ALMOND, both spaces blend Victorian and Art Deco influences that pay homage to Fitzrovia’s storied past. Upstairs, Brasserie Angelica will offer elegant all-day dining; below, Gambit Bar provides a dramatic, subterranean retreat. Each is conceived to carry guests seamlessly from morning coffee to late-night cocktails.
Brasserie Angelica reimagines the classic European brasserie with a modern sensibility, reflecting the rhythm of its bustling surroundings. Under the direction of Executive Chef Christian Turner, the menu highlights trusted London suppliers and celebrated UK producers through simple yet refined dishes with Northern European flair — think Sutton Hoo chicken pie with cep cream sauce, confit duck leg with haricot beans and parsley salad, and gravlax with fermented cucumber.
At lunch, a bespoke sandwich trolley will bring a touch of theatre to guests seeking a quick yet elevated bite. Open from breakfast through to late evening, seven days a week, the brasserie aims to combine approachable pricing with warm, thoughtful service.
For private occasions, The Newman offers two dining rooms — Talland and Little Talland — named after Virginia Woolf’s beloved holiday home. Both serve the full brasserie menu in an intimate, elegant setting.
Beneath the brasserie, Gambit Bar invites guests to unwind in an atmosphere of quiet drama. Drinks curated by Eder Nato, The Newman’s Head of Food and Drink, showcase inventive combinations such as Excitement and Fate (rum, pineapple, cherry, shiso, sesame) and True Gift, a reimagined Picante with tequila, lime, bird’s-eye chillies, blood orange, and smoked salt.
Every signature cocktail will also be available alcohol-free, alongside a curated list of London beers on tap — from Two Tribes of King’s Cross to Kernel of Bermondsey. A concise menu of bar snacks by Chef Turner — flatbreads, oysters, and rullepølse (Danish cold cuts) — complements the drinks perfectly.
Gambit Bar will also host a rotating events programme, featuring resident DJs and convivial chess nights inspired by its name.
