There is a certain point in the summer when Cape Cod settles into its rhythm.
The hydrangeas have reached their peak. Boats drift back into Pleasant Bay as the sun begins to set. Dinner stretches a little longer. Nobody is in a hurry to leave the table.
For more than two decades, Wednesday evenings at Wequassett Resort & Golf Club have become part of that rhythm.
Now celebrating its 22nd season, the Cape Cod Jazz & Arts Festival has quietly evolved into one of New England's most beloved summer traditions. What began as an intimate concert series has grown into a signature cultural event, attracting internationally acclaimed jazz artists, Grammy winners, celebrated vocalists, and Cape favorites, all while maintaining the relaxed sophistication that has defined Wequassett for nearly a century.
I spend much of my time searching for experiences that feel rooted in a destination rather than simply taking place there. The best recommendations tell you something about where you are. They leave you feeling more connected to a place.
This is one of those evenings.
Long considered one of New England's premier luxury resorts, Wequassett occupies twenty-seven waterfront acres overlooking Pleasant Bay in Harwich. Since opening in 1925, the property has welcomed generations of travelers seeking a quieter kind of luxury, one built around thoughtful hospitality, exceptional dining, boating, and an unmistakable sense of place. Today, the Forbes Five-Star resort continues to evolve, pairing beautifully refreshed accommodations and elevated culinary programming with the timeless charm that has made it one of Cape Cod's defining destinations.
The Cape Cod Jazz & Arts Festival reflects that same philosophy.
Unlike a traditional music festival, the evening unfolds at the pace of a summer dinner party. Guests begin with cocktails overlooking the bay before settling into a seasonal dinner curated by Executive Chef James Hackney, whose leadership has helped establish Wequassett as one of the Cape's premier culinary destinations. As daylight fades, the Garden Terrace transforms into an intimate outdoor concert venue where nationally recognized artists perform beneath the stars.
This season feels particularly special.
Following the resort's centennial celebration and continued investment in guest experiences, the festival continues to expand its artistic ambitions while preserving the intimate atmosphere that has made it so beloved. Rather than growing bigger, the series has become more thoughtfully curated, blending internationally acclaimed performers with artists who have become part of the Cape's own creative fabric.
Beginning July 30, audiences are welcomed by Sarah Swain & the Oh Boys, whose energetic blend of Americana, rockabilly, blues, and soul feels perfectly suited to a Cape Cod summer evening. Swain has long been one of the region's most respected musical voices, not only as a performer but also as the founder of the Cape Wellness Collaborative and the Cape Cod Women's Music Festival. Their performance celebrates the creative spirit of the Cape itself.
On August 6, the spotlight turns to The Rip-It-Ups featuring Siobhan Magnus, the American Idol finalist and Cape Cod native whose powerhouse vocals and infectious stage presence have made her a hometown favorite. Backed by one of the region's most accomplished bands, the evening promises a lively mix of classic rock, soul, and pop that always gets audiences on their feet.
One of the highlights of the festival arrives on August 13 with internationally acclaimed saxophonist and vocalist Grace Kelly. A seven-time DownBeat Critics Poll winner, Kelly has performed in more than 35 countries alongside artists including Dave Brubeck, Wynton Marsalis, Gloria Estefan, and Jon Batiste. Her annual appearances at Wequassett have become something of a tradition themselves, drawing returning guests who often plan their summer visits around her performances. She represents exactly the caliber of artist that has elevated this festival's national reputation.
The series concludes on August 27 with The Allnighters featuring Jermaine Paul, whose commanding vocals first captured audiences after winning NBC's The Voice. Having toured with Alicia Keys and shared stages with many of today's biggest recording artists, Paul brings contemporary soul, R&B, and infectious energy to a finale designed to send summer out on a high note. Expect the dance floor to fill well before the encore.
What I appreciate most about the Cape Cod Jazz & Arts Festival is that it never asks guests to choose between dinner and entertainment.
As concierge professionals, we often build evenings by stitching together multiple reservations across different locations. Here, everything unfolds naturally. Cocktails become dinner. Dinner becomes music. Music becomes conversation that somehow lasts well beyond the final applause.
